Location: Lux Coffee Bar. Phoenix, Az :: An old school coffee shot

If you remember typewriter ribbon, the bell at the end of the margin, reaching out to return; thinking white correction paper was the greatest, and taking typing in high school so that you could type papers in college, you are old school.

I was sitting at what I will call the old school table in Lux Coffee this morning and snapped this coffee shot.

I looked at it and thought it was ok. Different but my friend Patti looked at it and said it had too much space in it. She offered to take one. Holding her camera nonchalantly up at an interesting angle she snapped this shot in one take.

Phfft. It was pretty cool. I liked the lighting. I should also note she didn’t even look through the lens finder.

I also note that the typewriter here looks to be an electric model … still old school.

Tom and family on a Thanksgiving vacation

Tom, also known as Cigarman, writes for the Tampa Bay Examiner, and is on vacation this week at the Hilton Grand Vacations Parc Soleil in Orlando, Florida. He not only is a connoisseur of fine cigars, he knows a bit about coffee. He enjoys roasting his own beans at home. I’ll be honest, In Room Coffee doesn’t quite sound like a great roast. Although this is a vacation, and coffee always taste better ON VACATION : )

An IHOP coffee shot! Apopka-Vineland Road, Orlando.

They had breakfast at International House of Pancakes and Tom snapped this shot. Check out how the food pictures look 3-D. My first job was as a dishwasher at IHOP. That was 1976 and I made $1.85 an hour.

Thank you Tom for sharing your vacation coffee shots. Enjoy!

Ana’s Cuban Cafe in Key West, Florida was the scene of this coffee shot. This rooster was their each morning we came to have coffee. The island is home to a lot of these descendants of the original fighters. The Cuban coffee was made with hot milk. Ana’s has been in business for over 12 years and is open seven days a week.

Starting to look a bit like Christmas! Donut Girl sent this coffee shot from the Mid-Town Starbucks in Phoenix, Az. She reports rather than a donut, she had a slice of ginger bread and it was very good. Temps in Phoenix are also signaling the holidays are fast approaching … morning temps have been in the mid 40s. Quite chilly for Valley residents.

Beach Coffee: Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. St Barts Coffee Mug

On a recent visit to Florida, I had the opportunity to do my first coffee shots from the beach. This was the public beach in Ft. Lauderdale. The Coffee Mug was “borrowed” from a shop just across the street, St. Barts Coffee. I had an Americano. It was a stunning day on the beach. If you are in Ft. Lauderdale, do stop in at St.Barts. There are two locations and this one is right on A1A, directly across from the beach.

She says McDonald’s coffee is a far better choice than most gas station options, but admits it doesn’t compare to your local roaster. (I like the McCafe cup’s design.)
